Wow - glad I saw this comment when I did, guess I don't have to approve yours (unlike everyone else's) since you're an author, so I didn't get notified about this one XD Anyway, yeah, it was very cool to read about the dedication from the employees! And that former Bonanaza in Dyersburg sounds interesting as well... wonder if the new operator has as much of an affinity for wood paneling as this place did :PRetail Retellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12636351832804174132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2942610691709761769.post-48695176849340735892019-05-24T20:23:47.706-05:002019-05-24T20:23:47.706-05:00Another excellent post! Now I'd be curious to check out the Mexican restaurant that operates out of the old Bonanza barn style building in Dyersburg TN. l_dawg2000https://www.blogger.com/profile/06076421638924861833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2942610691709761769.post-51215250938824839642019-05-21T00:11:08.156-05:002019-05-21T00:11:08.156-05:00Ha, I loved that as well! I agree, I really enjoy seeing situations like this - they could be interpreted as sad in one way, and rightfully so, but I think there's also an underdog story there when you see them still hanging on in the face of so much adversity in their industry in general as well as facing them directly (my earlier post on record stores comes to mind here, too). Anyway, yeah, I'm happy to be encouraging everyone to visit their local Ponderosa as a result of this post, lol! That tourist district sounds particularly cool, and like YonWoo said on flickr, I may just need to come down to Florida one day to check it all out for myself :P And yes, I sure hope those pieces were salvaged as well! The closure was indeed sad, but at least most of the employees seem happy to move on to new chapters in their lives, such as one comment I saw in my research saying Albert (the steak chef) told a customer he will now spend a lot more time fishing. In a case like this, I think most locals can smile at that outcome, and be happy they have all the good memories as well.Retail Retellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12636351832804174132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2942610691709761769.post-55366292450540176252019-05-20T22:49:38.585-05:002019-05-20T22:49:38.585-05:00"They paved paradise to put up a Dollar Gener..."They paved paradise to put up a Dollar General" - I thought that was so funny! If Family Dollar could open in an old Golden Corral building, why couldn't DG save the old Bonanza?!

Anyway, great post! I like lost histories of retail like most others who read this blog, and it's interesting to see the remains of these once powerful chains. Florida has one Ponderosa left, located in Kissimmee's tourist district, which I now really want to visit after reading this! The tourist district has a lot of rare-to-Florida restaurants actually, whether they be broken chains or chains that don't have many locations to begin with. I also hope those stained glass panels and the Bonanza mirrors from within the restaurant were able to be salvaged from the demolition. Those were very neat! Overall this Bonanza was a classic place (especially with all that wood paneling - you can't get much more 70's than that!). It was quite evident this restaurant was loved very much by the locals, which makes it's closure that much sadder to see.Albertsons Florida Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17350708223049245195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2942610691709761769.post-54472285981813637372019-05-20T21:55:23.483-05:002019-05-20T21:55:23.483-05:00Thank you, and my pleasure!
